Debrief on First Fishbowl

Take a few minutes to think about the fishbowl from Act 1 of Hamlet. What are some of the things that went well? What are some things that were more challenging? What suggestions do you have for improvement? What should we continue to do for the next fishbowl on Act 2 on Monday? Please be thoughtful in your responses.

I think the discussion in the phish bowl went incredibly well, everyone participated and gave good comments.

i think the most diffacult part was getting started and warmed up, but once everyone got talking things loosened up and things went fine.

As for improvements i cant really think of many accept that the outer circle should try to participate with the inner circles conversation more.

I think that everyone was prepared and the blogging went very well there were over 100 comments. Starting off the conversation was the worst part because no one really understood what the question was and at first people were shy. For improvements I think the questions should be easier to understand because the more someone understands what they are being asked the more detailed a persons answer will be. We should all keep up with the story and try not to skip over the obvious facts because sometimes we skip over those in a search to find more in depth information. Overall it went well for our first class fishbowl and the goldfish were bomb.com!

The fishbowl started off very slow and challenging. However I thought that the bogging went great and great questions were being asked and the answers were different and had different thoughts and made it fun to read and blog. After awhile the inner circle did a good job of getting beyond the text and thinking analytically and more theory then actually text. The discussion goes further with more theory talk and the discussion is more fun to be apart of. I think for the next act the questions should lead the inner circle out of the text and into theories and beliefs.

I feel the discussion was a slow start but finally we got rolling and discussions went well. I think that some people over powered the conversation and it was hard for some people to get in their thoughts. I am glad that Smith came in and created a good discussion topic. For our first fish bowl I think overall, it went very well but there are always those little things that need to be worked on.

As a collective, i concur that the the discussion began slowly and progressed into a very legit discussion. The infatuation with the weeds at the beginning opened up the floor for a positive discussion all in all.

The difficulty in saying what was wanted to be said happened to be the only detrimental part of the discussion as well as the fact that it was much too difficult to enter the circle because someone else would already be on it.

To improve: I believe the phishbowl is a good idea in theory and i like the blog discussion but i think that instead of limiting discussion to inner circle, the entire class should be able to participate.

I think that the questions were very good but could have been asked at better times. I think to help the fish bowl flow better people could ask questions related to the topic they are already on instead of changing subjects with the question. I think it will help lead the discussions to last longer and the questions can be more meaningful possibly.

I thought that the fishbowl went well and the comments on the blog went good also. I think it was good that we were getting in some pretty heated discusions about the relation to grief, Hamlet's father's ghost and religious beliefs.

I agree with Molly that the hardest part was getting started but once we got going it turned in to a very good descusion.

I think for the next fishbowl we should have the same kind of thing because personally I thought it went very well and I also liked that the people on the inside could read the blog while they were discussing.

I think that these fishbowls are really hectic. I have been in the outer circle both times and I am finding it really hard to keep up with the blog and still try to pay a little attention to what is going on in the inner circle. I have not been able to go into the inner circle because I do not ever know what they are talking about.
