The characters in Shakespeare’s Hamlet all represent different characteristics in a society, which clash against each other, leading to the society’s imminent downfall.

AdrienneB2009 said...

In Hamlet by Shakespeare, women are depicted as tools because they depend on men, they are easily manipulated by men, and they never defend themselves.

shellim2009 said...

Throughout the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Hamlet is frustrated with the women in his life, yet he still uses them as pawns to his madness, which suggests that he can not live without them.

taylors: This is a good thesis, but if you could maybe find a different word for 'characters' however, it would enhance it more. If you have characters, and then characteristics right afterwards, it gets a little confusing. I think you have a very good point to agrue here though, and that you can tie it into today's society as well. Good job! :)

Hamlet written by William Shakespeare portrays the relationships between fathers and sons as well how the sons react to their father’s death, which suggests that all the sons...(to be decided).

KendraS2009 said...

Adrienne: Overall good thesis. You might want to pick another word for tools. It sounds weird only because it can be used in different ways than just the way you mean for it to be used. Maybe use a word like device or instrument to better explain your meaning.

Through the actions of the main characters in Hamlet, William Shakespeare argues that man is inherently deceitful in regards to achieving his own ambitions.

Hamlet by William Shakespeare, in essence, is a story of irony due to the nature of its characters and the conflicts they find themselves struggling with.

Mackenzie said...

Throughout the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, many characters pursue knowledge to avoid the unknown at all costs; however, their efforts will ultimately trap them in the most feared unknown of all, death.

KatieO2010 said...

Though many characters in Hamlet claim to be religious, namely Claudius, Hamlet and Getrude, they act completley without concience, indicating that they are, in fact, unreligious.

mollyp2010 said...

Throughout most of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, masks cover up the king's true intentions, however Claudius cannot forever mask his true identity.

mollyp2010 said...

Irene: I think that this is a good thesis, as long as the intro leading up to it is a bit more specific as to what is ironic in the play.

SaraB2009 said...

In the play Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, all the characters are dealing with a huge amount of grief, and this grief helps play a part in the insanity of the characters.

SaraB2009 said...

Kendra: I think that your thesis is very good and it brings up a good point in the play. It will be interseting to see how you are going to finish it.

EricL2009 said...

In Hamlet by Shakespeare, Hamlet tells the guards that he will be acting mad, however; he plays the part of being mad so well that it can be seen as though he really has become mad.

EricL2009 said...

Molly: I really like the idea of your thesis and from what it says looks like it will be a great paper.
Adrienne: I like how your thesis is just straight to the point and I think that is a great way to just go at it right away.

In the play Hamlet, writer William Shakespeare uses religious representations seen throughout the Bible in his characters and their actions.

KaitlanW2009 said...

It is easy to say that Hamlet is by far Shakespeare's darkest play, evil seems to control every character, from murder to madness no one is safe from hell.

KaitlanW2009 said...

Lauren B: Good thesis, you may want to add a bit more detail into it just to get the reader hooked.

Sara: I really like where your thesis is going. It seems a little wordy at the moment...try cutting it down a little and it will be perfect!

MollyP: Like you said about mine, as long as you have a good intro explaining the "masks" you should be good to go.

KaitlanW2009 said...

Adrienne: I agree with your thesis it brings up a good point, i think it needs a little something to drive it home. I don't know what, maybe an example.

Kim C. 2010 said...

In Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare represents Hamlet as an insane genius, by use of his plots and paranoia.

Kim C. 2010 said...

Kaitlin: I like your thesis, however you might want to change the wording to be a little less about saying that it is easy to tell because some people might think that they are dumb because they dont see that and then shut off their brain to the rest of your paper.

DrewB2009 said...

In the play Hamlet, William Shakespeare uses sarcasm and wit to prove that Hamlet may seem crazy but in reality is sane and has complete control of his situation.

DrewB2009 said...

Lauren B: Good theses but what is it you are trying to prove?

DrewB2009 said...

Sara E: Great thesis and word choice for it. It looks like that will be a great paper.

EricB2009 said...

In the play Hamlet by William Shakespere the characters show signs of selfishness due to the events happening in the play.

In the play Hamlet by William Shakespere the characters show signs of selfishness due to the events happening in the play.

EricB2009 said...

Saras- Great thesis because it shows a direct argument that you are trying to prove in your paper. Clear thesis.

TaylorH2009 said...

Drew: i like how your thesis statement sets up the argument for whether or not he is or is not sane i think thats something that will be a great essay.

TaylorH2009 said...

In Shakespeare's Hamlet, the characters are all dealing with their own inner struggle and specifically Hamlet's very own issue of indecision throughout the story.

KatieM2009 said...

In Hamlet written by William Shakespeare the acts of betrayl lead to the downfall of many charachers.

KatieM2009 said...

Adrienne: your thesis looks well thought out. I think you should add William Shakespeare instead of just Shakespeare just because it will be the full authors name.

KCH2009 said...

In a selfish play like this, all most of the characters would rather seek revenge than to forgive the wrongful deed.

KCH2009 said...

Taylor H: i like your topic, sounds like there are alot of examples you can have to defend your argument.

Pat said...

In the play Hamlet, William Shakespeare shows the corrupted view of father son relationships through self interest, manipulation, and mentorship.

Pat said...

KC- you might want to confirm what play and characters you are specifically talking about in your thesis statement. It sounds like an interesting topic though.

Wilberry09 said...

The connotation of a detrimental occurrence may be interpreted in many different fashions, although the extreme power of the spoken word can only be delineated as a truly life-changing fact.

Wilberry09 said...

Taylor: how do different characters represent people in society as well as how do they lead to the downfall?

Wilberry09 said...

Kendra: How exactly do Hamlet and his father represent the connection between father and son considering we do not hear much of Hamlet and The King?

KatieO2010 said...

SaraB, Its a good thesis but not very argumentative, I dont see two clear sides, you might also want to rephrase some of the wording to make it flow more smoothly.

MollyT177 said...

Throught the play Hamlet by William Shakespear, there is a constant reaocurance of the number three, each time the numer appears it has a diffrent sagnifagent meaning.

MollyT177 said...

Kaitlan:

This seems to be a good thesis statement. IF you could narrow it down a little mroe and specify, it would be great.

Rick Maestas said...

In Shakespeare's Hamlet, protagonist Hamlet is attempting to avenge his father's death while struggling with his own sanity.

michelle: i think you would benefit by omitting the first part of your sentence since this will already have been explained in the introduction paragraph. then, by splitting the last part into a separate sentence, you will have a more coherent introduction.

MollyT177 said...

Pat:

this will be a great topic to discuss, but are all the father son realationships in the play really corrupt?

MollyT177 said...

Michellem: but could Hamlet live withought them if he had too?

what diffrence would it make if women weren't there.

The only woman he really seems to use is Ophelia.

LaurenB2009 said...

Rick: I like where you are going with this, their are alot of examples and points you will be able to use in your paper. It will be interestiong to see how you prove hamlet is a protagonist

TaylorS2009 said...

Kim C: Insane is a bit of an opinonated word, perhaps you can use a more descriptive word. I really like your thesis idea though!! :]

HaileyM2009 said...

In Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, the differences in an individual’s outlook on madness are elucidated by the actions of Claudius, Ophelia, and Hamlet.

Rick: Maybe you could introduce three different points you can argue with your thesis. Your points are very valid, but less controversial and you may struggle with finding points? Also, when you hit on the different points in your thesis it becomes a mini (and easy) outline...

Mackenzie said...

EricB: Good ideas! You might want to be a little more specific in your theses, like what characters? What signs of selfishness? What events? I don't think you would need to give examples on all of them, but you might want to choose one topic to argue about and explain in your paper.

Anonymous said...

Kaitlan: I like your idea, you need to specify why they are all unsafe hell, etc. Basically, just bring it all together.

SarahE2010 said...

Pat: you have a really good strat, but what is shakespeare arguing/suggesting?

SarahE2010 said...

Kailtin: you have good idea. Just make sure you use shakespeare's full name, and make sure you state what he is arguing.

Lauren L said...

Thesis 1:
Hamlets ability to manipulatepeople into believing he is going crazy illustrates the selfishness one can have and the extremes a person will take to make themselves content.

Thesis 2:
Selfishness is enevitable, every person in this world has a strand of selfishness, though some strands are thicker than others. The lenghts people take to satisfy themselves in Hamlet are outrageous and infinite.

Im not sure if I like any of these. People can help me if they want!

In hamlet people with power do not have to face the consequences that normal people would face for the same action.

The acting of roles created deception and rottenness, affecting several characters and events throughout Hamlet.
